As a national conservation corps, ACE holds an established reputation for providing exceptional training and support to allow field crews to safely implement and complete technically complex and critical conservation projects on public lands for the US Forest Service, BLM, National Park Service, Fish & Wildlife Service and numerous state and local land management partners.
Job Title: Program Manager, Pacific West
Location: Sacramento, CA or Ridgecrest, CA. This position is based onsite in an ACE office.
Department/Division: CREW, Pacific West
Status: Full Time, Exempt.
Schedule/Hours: Full-time. Flexible schedule with varying shifts; 40 hours/week with additional hours as needed. Some evening and weekend hours may be occasionally required.
Travel: Yes, moderate regional travel required.

Position Summary: ACE's Pacific West program operates year-round completing trail, restoration, and conservation field projects across the inspiring landscapes of California and beyond. Crews work from the Pacific coast to the peaks of the Sierra Nevada to the Mojave Desert. As an ACE Program Manager, you will be responsible for providing on-the-ground program management and leadership to staff directly supporting our conservation field crews and projects.
The Program Manager (PRM) fills a vital role as a leader in one of ACE Pacific West's branch locations in either Sacramento, CA or Ridgecrest, CA. Under the supervision of the Pacific West Division Director, the PRM provides leadership and direction for a Member Support Coordinator and a Logistics Coordinator and works closely with ACE PW's Operations Team, including Crew Leaders, Project Managers, and Senior Project Managers. The PRM has three major areas of responsibility:
- Management of PW warehouse and office operations in a branch location
- Leadership of PW's member resources program in a branch location
- Leadership of PW's logistics program in a branch location
The incumbent will coordinate with PW Division staff to develop and implement outreach, recruitment, and onboarding processes and strategies to ensure a diverse and well-prepared team while also overseeing logistical processes related to housing, transportation, and food for members. The PRM will ensure ongoing support for Pacific West's conservation program and its members prior to, during, and after their service. The incumbent plays a crucial role in advancing ACE's core values of Quality, Inclusion, Professional Development, Stewardship and Partner Immersed. This position will be based at one of ACE PW's two field base locations (Sacramento, CA or Ridgecrest, CA). It requires regional travel (up to 20%) as well as office-based work (80%). Travel may include field work and overnight stays in a variety of conditions and accommodations including camping.
Required Experience and Qualifications:
- 3-4 years of experience working in volunteer management, recruiting, logistics, project management and/or equivalent roles within a Conservation Corps, nonprofit or comparable setting.
- Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate. BA/BS degree from an accredited college/university preferred, but not required.
- Willingness and ability to communicate and coordinate internally within ACE and with external stakeholders and partners.
- Willingness to travel, work occasional weekends and attend community events including occasional camping.
- Strong skills in interpersonal communication, public speaking, organization, management, conflict resolution and motivating others.
- Outstanding organizational and time management skills with the ability to maintain and effectively support a complex array of programs.
- Computer skills required including intermediate knowledge of Excel, fluency in social media, and professional email etiquette. Strong data management skills preferred.
- Ability to function as an efficient, effective and adaptable team member displaying professional-level proficiencies in both technical and interpersonal skills.
- General knowledge and understanding of AmeriCorps and federal grants; Experience working with AmeriCorps program compliance, administration, and management is desired.
- Familiarity with developing social media and marketing strategies.
- Ability to perform work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Ability to adapt to the surrounding work environment and conditions that can change frequently.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and supervisors.
- Ability to prevent, analyze, and resolve safety issues; possess knowledge of safety procedures as applied to fleet and housing operations and experience in encouraging and enforcing compliance with safety policies.
- Ability to receive and provide constructive feedback.
- Ability to prepare and maintain records and reports.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Ability to understand and follow ACE systems and processes.
- Proven ability to work independently and be a positive, contributing member of a group.
Other Requirements:

- Ability to pass a federal criminal background check
- Willing to abide by ACE Policy and Federal Drug Free workplace policies and laws. ACE reserves the right to drug test at any time
- All ACE members and staff must verify that they are fully vaccinated for COVID-19 by the time they start their term/position or request a medical or religious exemption.
Physical Demands, Work Environment and Working Conditions:
Physical Demands: Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, carrying, using hands to handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms. Manual dexterity required for use of computer keyboard/mouse and other office equipment. Required to stoop, kneel, climb stairs, and/or crouch.
Vision Requirements: Requires close, distance, peripheral and depth perception vision as well as the ability to focus.
Weight Lifted or Force Exerted: Ability to move up to 45 lbs.
Environmental: Primarily indoor conditions. Occasional outdoor work when meeting with staff and/or members in the field.
Noise Environment: Moderate noise.
Travel: This position requires domestic travel.
Compensation: Starting annualized salary of $62,400.00 (assuming 40 hours/week for 52 weeks).
Medical/Health Benefits: ACE offers competitive medical and ancillary plans (health, mental health, dental, vision and other supplemental benefits). ACE Staff members are also eligible to participate in ACE's 403b retirement plan with a 1% employer contribution.
Holidays, Vacation, and Sick Time: As an ACE staff member, you will be eligible to accrue up to 80 hours of paid vacation time annually during your first two years of continuous employment, then it increases to 120 hours annually. ACE observes 13 paid annual holidays (floating holiday flexibility). Additionally, ACE full-time regular employees also receive paid additional holiday time for any normal work days that fall between the observed Christmas Day and New Years Day holidays. ACE provides 10 days (or 80 hours) of paid sick time annually.
